Elis is 28 years old and has Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). HCM was found to be in his family after his father passed away suddenly, and he has undergone rigorous screening since he was 3 years old. He was diagnosed at age 22 when genetic testing revealed he had inherited the faulty gene.
Elis currently works for South Wales Police in Major Crime and he is a founding member of the 14-25 Young People’s panel within the charity. He is a member of a hockey team and is a keen golfer. Elis also loves spending his free time relaxing with his fiancée and their two dogs Frank and Mollie.
Elis also runs the Bridgend Cardiomyopathy Support Group alongside his mother and fiancée. After battling psychologically for many years with HCM, Elis now has an S-ICD that has now given him the confidence that he had lost. Elis does not let HCM get in the way of doing the things that he loves.
Elis is hoping by working with the board of trustees he can continue working towards his goal of raising awareness of Cardiomyopathy across all ages and supporting those who struggle with their diagnosis at a younger age.
